"happening now." good morning to you on this thursday. i'm jon scott. jenna: it would nice to have cheetos on set so we could investigate properly. jon: you're making me hungry. jenna: there are a lot of topics to bet to today. we are glad you are with us. i'm jenna lee. 19 days until election day. and now a new presidential poll revealing something rehave not yet seen in the race for the white house, governor romney's lead over president obama among likely voters is outside the margin of error for the very first time. it's a new gallop daily tracking poll and it's showing the governor with his biggest lead to date 51-45%. up 6 points over the president. this is an important reminder, this latest survey was taken before tuesday's second presidential debate. we'll see if that has any affect at all. following the first presidential debate we saw how any performance on the national stage can really influence polls. tonight the president and governor will be on the same stage again, or be on or share a stage together again, it's not the same stage but in a much different setting. i hope -- may

. also pulitzer prize winning historian jon meacham. we have three weeks to go until election day. and tonight, obviously, is the big debate. it's going to be a town hall-style debate. and some new polls are out. let's take a look at, again, we've got a shift possibly in the electoral map. this morning, a new "usa today" gallup poll shows growing momentum for mitt romney in the key battleground states, including ohio, florida, and virginia. the poll has romney pulling ahead by four points among likely voters. 50% to 46%. this is obviously a big shift. it's only one poll. but perhaps the bigger take away from this poll and some others is how the candidates are ranking among likely woman voters in those battleground states. we've heard an awful lot about the gender gap since the primary season, but among likely female voters in swing states, mitt romney's pulling almost even with the president. 48% to 49%, among male voters in the swing states, romney has an eight-point lead over the president. mark, let's start with you. you're reporting right now that senior democratic officials a

: hi, jon. thank you to c-span. we talk tough. during the bush administration, we talked about the axis of evil, iraq, iran, and north korea. about benghazi -- i watched the hearings all the way through. the two security people kept talking about more security, they ask for more security. mr. nordstrom was asked if more security would have stopped this attack and his answer was no. guest: so what is the question? host: that is all we heard from her. guest: it raises the complexity of the situation in syria. more security would not necessarily have stopped the attacke. the other issue is what the president should have known and when and whether this intelligence should have landed at the doorstep of the white house or not. these kind of request to not normally make it up to the white house. the white house cannot be dealing with every security request for merit local american outpost around the world. the president and vice president have more important work to do. to lay them at the foot of the president is not necessarily fair. it raises the level of presidential attention. president o

pharmacy, but what the f.d.a. told us today about that pharmacy came as quite a surprise. here's dr. jon lapook. >> reporter: the food and drug administration tested 50 vials suspected to be a source of contamination in the meningitis outbreak. they found all 50 were contaminated by bacteria or fungus. the f.d.a. says internal n.e.c.c. documents show the company tested a vial from the same lot in august and labeled it sterile. the inspection also focused on the clean room at n.e.c.c. a clean room like this one is where ingredients are mixed to make sterile medication. the f.d.a. discovered n.e.c.c.'s own monitoring repeatedly found mold and bacteria growing on walls and surfaces. equipment used to sterilize medicine had "greenish-yellow discoloration" and "air ducts were dirty." according to the f.d.a., there's no evidence n.e.c.c. did anything to fix the problems. the n.e.c.c. responded today saying "we will review this report and will continue our cooperation." >> pelley: jon, thanks very much. we'll look at a key race in the battle for control of the senate. and we have the first vide

. jon husted decided to kick it down the road. we'll let it ride. if he decides to appeal, that will push the ultimate resolution of when you get to vote in ohio. it will push the resolution even closer to election day. we're already inside a month. he could just establish early voting hours, but why the rush? the election is still almost a month away. i have my hair to wash and stuff. by his own admission issue the later you change the rules before an election, the more pressure that puts on local elections officials to accommodate those rules. they have to publicize the hours, have the machines ready, the voters have to know when to vote. that's it the job of the elections board. ohio has had early voting for everyone since 2005. the secretary of state was already trying to get them to change from something they had been doing. now he's making it so they won't know what they will be able to do and whether they will go back to the way it used to work since 2005 or whether they will have shorter hours. he's making it so the local elections boards will not know any of those

morning, everybody. i'm jon kelley. yes, it was a history-making night for those san francisco giants just pounding the tigers in game one of the world series. the giants beat them 8-3 thanks in large part to that man there. pablo sandoval, some serious flex appeal last night. three home runs, becoming just the fourth player to hit three home runs in a single game during the world series. after the ball game family and friends greeting the giants. sandoval's family was there as expected adding to all the emotion he felt as he talked to us in the locker room. >> you dream like a little kid of being in the world series. to hit three home run is too much for me right now. >> the dream for him and giants fans. it was awesome. he joins the likes of babe ruth and reggie jackson with his three home runs in that single game. get this, he is the first player to hit those three home runs in each his first three plate appearances during a world series ball game. i know christina loren stayed up late for this one. she's also checking the weather. >> i'm sure i'm not the only one. we know you did as we

this morning," bill whitaker in los angeles. >> jon miller joins us now. good morning. what happened here? >> well, they're still piecing it together. but the preliminary information -- and because it's preliminary and this is confusing, that could change. but what appears happen is they're executing a drug warrant on a location. they have a surveillance team on the perimeter. so far that's all routine. this car comes out from around the location and somebody gets on the radio to the perimeter surveillance team and says check that car out before it leaves the area, thinking maybe the suspect is hiding in the back or in the trunk. so this border patrol agent goes to engage the car and say stop, and that's where the story gets foggier, because what we don't know is how did he identify himself? did he have his badge on a chain? did he clearly state police? what we do know is that this thing went horribly wrong. it's possible that from the perspective of the driver, ms. alvarado, she may have seen a guy in plain clothes possibly with a weapon and thought i'm being carjacked and tried to drive
